Lakeland Joint School District 272 is nestled in the Panhandle of North Idaho. It is home to six K-6 Schools; Athol Elementary, Betty Kiefer Elementary, Garwood Elementary, John Brown Elementary, Spirit Lake Elementary and Twin Lakes Elementary. Two 7-8 Schools; Lakeland Junior High and Timberlake Junior High. And three 9-12 Schools; Lakeland Senior High, Timberlake Senior High and Mountain View Alternative. We are also affiliated with Kootenai Technical Education Campus (a cooperative between Lakeland, Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls School Districts).
Emergency Levy Information
At a special board meeting held on September 6, Lakeland Board of Trustees approved an Emergency Levy for $259,722 to help defray the costs of increased enrollment. The district continues to experience growth, as evidenced by the 121 enrollment increase this year. However, an emergency levy is based on attendance, not enrollment. Our attendance count conducted over the first 3 days of school – September 3rd, 4th, and 5th – and its comparison to the first 3 days of attendance showed a year-over-year attendance increase of 47 students. The one-time money will help pay for additional teachers, support staff, technology, and supplies necessary to educate the new students. Even with the emergency levy, the district tax rate will be reduced from $4.12 per thousand last year to $3.49 for this year. Although growth was seen throughout the district, Betty Kiefer Elementary, Garwood Elementary, and Lakeland Junior High enrolled the most new students. Current District student enrollment is 4,622.
