What is the School Modernization Facilities Fund?
The School Modernization Facilities Fund is a state-funded program created by Idaho House Bill 521 to help school districts address facility needs, improve learning environments, and maintain school buildings across the state.
Where does the funding come from?
The funding came from state-issued bonds approved by the Idaho Legislature. The state distributed these one-time funds to school districts for eligible facility projects.
What happens if project costs change?

How much funding did Lakeland School District receive?
Lakeland School District was allocated almost $20 million through the School Modernization Facilities Fund. These funds must be used for eligible facility projects as defined by state law.
How were the schools selected for these modernization projects?
The purpose of the modernization funds is to repair and replace aging building systems and bring school facilities up to modern standards. Over the past five years, the district has made significant investments in Athol and Spirit Lake Elementary Schools. As a result, the older schools in the southern portion of the district are now among those most in need of repair, renovation, and modernization.

What are the requirements for the School Modernization Facilities Fund?

In addition, eligible projects must have a minimum useful life of at least seven years, ensuring that investments provide long-term value for students, staff, and school facilities.
Can these funds be used for salaries, programs, or curriculum?
No. The funds are restricted to facility-related projects and cannot be used for employee salaries, instructional programs, curriculum, or general operating expenses.
How were Lakeland's projects selected?
