Self-Directed Learner Application
The Lakeland Joint School District offers a Self-Directed Learner program that gives students additional flexibility in meeting graduation requirements while allowing them to tailor their education to their individual learning goals. In collaboration with a supervising teacher and their parent or guardian, students may create a learning plan that includes flexible or virtual attendance, extended learning opportunities, acceleration, credit by examination, or other agreed-upon learning experiences.
Students in the program are expected to remain on track academically and demonstrate continued progress toward their learning and postsecondary goals. This program allows students to use district resources in customized ways while also pursuing educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.
